Policy review

A free, honest look at what you already have.

If you already have life insurance — through work, an old policy, or coverage someone set up years ago — I'll walk through it with you in plain English. I'll tell you what you have, what it does, and whether it still fits your situation today. No fee. No obligation.

What it actually is

A short call where we go through what you've got.

A policy review is a quick, no-obligation look at the life insurance you already have. We get on a call together, walk through your existing coverage in plain English, and figure out whether it still fits your situation today.

Most people who have life insurance bought it years ago, were given it through a job, or had a parent set it up. Lives change — kids arrive, mortgages get bigger or smaller, jobs come and go, health improves or doesn't. Coverage that was right at one moment may not be right anymore. Reviews catch that gap.

The honest part: if your existing coverage is fine, I'll tell you that. If your work life insurance plus the old whole life policy your dad set up actually covers what you need today, I'll say so and we move on. I'm not trying to talk you into replacing a working policy. That's not the point.

That said, reviews often surface real things worth knowing. Old beneficiary designations that haven't been updated since a divorce or remarriage. Term policies expiring soon that you'd forgotten about. Living benefits sitting in a policy you didn't know existed. Conversion deadlines coming up. Or the opposite — coverage you're paying for that you don't actually need anymore. Either way, you leave with clarity.

What's included, what's not

What I look at

  • Your current coverage amount versus what your situation actually needs today
  • Beneficiary designations on each policy (often outdated after life changes)
  • Riders included on each policy — especially living benefits
  • Conversion options on term policies, and any deadlines coming up
  • Premium structure and how it changes over time
  • Carrier financial strength rating
  • Health classification — sometimes you can requalify at a better rate
  • Whether the total picture (work + personal + spouse) still aligns with your life

What I don't do

  • Don't charge for this — it's free, and there's no obligation to change anything
  • Don't try to talk you into replacing a policy that's actually working
  • Don't review property or casualty insurance (homeowners, auto, renters)
  • Don't give general financial planning or investment advice — life insurance is the specific focus
  • Don't pressure you with follow-ups if you decide nothing needs to change
  • Don't share your information with anyone or add you to mailing lists
Who this fits

If any of these sound like you, a review is worth a call.

You have life insurance through work

Group coverage is usually capped at one or two times salary, and ends with the job. A review tells you whether it's enough on its own.

You bought a policy 5+ years ago

Most policies haven't been looked at since they were signed. A lot can change in five years — for you, and in the insurance market.

Your life recently changed

Marriage, divorce, a new baby, a new house, a refinance, a job change — any of these can shift what you actually need.

You inherited a policy or are helping a parent

Adult children often end up responsible for understanding a parent's coverage. We can walk through it together.

You're not sure what coverage you actually have

If you can't remember what's in the policy, you're not alone. A review starts from "let's just look at it" — no judgment.

You want a second opinion

If someone sold you a policy and you're second-guessing it, a review from someone who isn't trying to sell you anything can help.

How I work

No pressure. No jargon. Just patience.

01

You tell me what you've got

On a call, you walk me through what you have — or what you think you have. If you don't have all the paperwork in front of you, that's fine. We work with what you remember.

02

I walk through each policy in plain English

What it does, what it doesn't, where it's strong, where it's not. I'll point out gaps if there are any, and I'll tell you when something is fine as-is.

03

You leave with clarity, not a sales pitch

If everything is fine, we end the call there. If there's something worth changing, we talk about options — but no decisions you have to make in the moment.

Common questions about policy review

Things people ask before we talk.

How much does this cost?
Nothing. There's no fee for the review, no obligation to change anything afterward, and no charge for any follow-up questions you have. I'm paid by the carrier when a policy is placed — never by you.
What if my current coverage is fine?
Then I'll tell you that. The whole point of the review is honesty about what you have, not finding a reason to sell you something. If your existing coverage covers what you need today, the review ends with "you're good" and we move on.
What documents do I need?
Whatever you have is fine — a policy summary, a benefits enrollment page from work, a digital portal login, even just a vague memory of what you signed up for years ago. We work with what's available. If we need more detail later, we can request it from the carrier together.
Will you try to sell me something?
Not during the review itself. The review is the review. If something genuinely doesn't fit and you want to talk about options, we can have that conversation as a separate step — but only if you want to. Reviews end with information, not a pitch.
Can you review my work life insurance?
Yes. Group coverage through an employer is one of the most common things people don't fully understand about their own protection. We can walk through how much it pays, what happens if you change jobs, and whether it's enough on its own (often, it isn't).
What if I don't have my old policy paperwork?
Common, and not a problem. We can usually piece things together from memory, then contact the carrier together if we need actual numbers. Most people don't have their policies organized — we work with what's there.
